Sensitive Skin Is Not A Skin Type. It Is A Skin State.

We hear this all the time.
“I just have sensitive skin.”
Sometimes that is true.
Most of the time it is not.
What we usually see is skin that has been pushed too far for too long. Over exfoliated. Over cleansed. Over treated. Over promised to.
Sensitive skin is often skin that is asking for a break.
Alex and I joke about this constantly in the treatment room. Clients come in listing off ten products they are using and wondering why their skin is mad. And the answer is almost always the same. It is tired.
Skin becomes reactive when the barrier is compromised. That can happen from aggressive actives, constant product switching, too many treatments too close together, or even stress and lack of sleep.
The fix is rarely adding something stronger.
The fix is almost always calming things down.
This is why Salt and Spirit formulas lean supportive instead of corrective. Skin does not need to be punished into behaving. It needs consistency and time.
Sensitive skin is not a flaw.
It is feedback.
